Dolphins to conditionally acquire Bush from Saints

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Dolphins in the following paragraphs. If there's at least one fact you didn't know before, imagine the difference it might make.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Dolphins now have at least a basic understanding. But there's more to come.

Dolphins to conditionally acquire Bush from Saints Reggie Bush Likely Being Traded to Dolphins, Taking Talents to South Beach

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports is reporting that the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins have agreed to a trade involving Reggie Bush. The trade, however, is contingent upon Bush accepting a re-negotiated contract with the Dolphins. Here's Glazer's tweet:

I'm reporting the Saints and Fins have worked out terms of a trade for RB Reggie Bush, contingent on Bush agreeing to a new contract w Fins...Bush's agent Joel Segal negotiating w Dolphins tonight. It also hinges upon Bush taking deal and not deciding to stick w NO at reduced rate

Glazer is usually right about these things so I would think this is close to being a done deal. But if that wasn't enough, Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald confirms the report and adds a few more details:

Source has confirmed, even at this late hour, that Dolphins are indeed working on a trade for Reggie Bush.

GM Jeff Ireland spent much of night working on Bush trade, but has chosen to sleep on terms & make decision in morning.

For now, Ireland is still grinding away at the office, I'm told. He hasn't gone to sleep -- still hammering out details of Bush acquistion.

I'd say this is a good deal all around; well played by Mickey Loomis. The Saints get out of Reggie's contract while still getting value for him and the Dolphins get...Reggie Bush? Who knows, it might be interesting to see him used in the Wildcat. Also good news is the fact that Reggie would not be going to an NFC team.

If this trade is confirmed in the morning, then I wish Reggie the best of luck. It's been a good run and I'll miss the great debates you've caused for years in Who Dat Nation.

The last time RB Reggie Bush played in Miami, he won a Super Bowl. The Dolphins hope he can provide a similar impact for their franchise.

The Saints have agreed to trade the No. 2 pick of the 2006 draft to the Dolphins, pending Bush's agreement to a renegotiated contract with Miami. He is scheduled to make $11.8 million in the final season of his rookie deal, a very hefty payout considering his propensity for injury and the fact he's not an every-down back.

FOXSports' Jay Glazer first broke the potential Bush deal early Thursday morning.

Bush seemed to know his time in the Big Easy could be at an end in April after the Saints drafted Alabama RB Mark Ingram in the first round; Bush tweeted: "It's been fun New Orleans.''

He is the prototype change-of-pace back coveted in the modern NFL and a dangerous punt returner. He's averaged nearly 59 receptions per season over the course of his NFL career.

But Bush has too rarely been the impact player many envisioned when he arrived into the league after a star-studded, Heisman Trophy-winning (since stripped) career at USC. Comparisons to Hall of Famer Gale Sayers have never really been justified.

Bush has missed 20 games over the past four seasons dealing with various injuries and only played in eight last year (broken leg). He has a middling career average of 4.o yards per carry (2,090 career rushing yards) and 33 NFL total TDs in his five seasons.

Still, his field-flipping ability made defenses constantly account for him and helped open up the Saints offense for his teammates. Bush came through with 217 all-purpose yards and two TDs in New Orleans' divisional playoff win vs. Arizona in 2010, springboarding the Saints' Super Bowl XLIV drive which successfully ended at Miami's Sun Life Stadium vs. the Colts.

The Dolphins could consider giving Bush a heavier workload with RBs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams both free agents. Miami did take Kansas State RB Daniel Thomas in Round 2 of the 2011 draft, and he could be the bellcow if he learns the offense quickly enough.

Knowing enough about Dolphins to make solid, informed choices cuts down on the fear factor. If you apply what you've just learned about Dolphins, you should have nothing to worry about.
